(ContentDesk) August 31, 2005 -- ATP Electronics Inc., a leading manufacturer of digital flash media products, today announced the release of 1GB MMCmobile flash cards. The highest capacity 1GB MMCmobile cards allow for double the capacity of multimedia content such as video, music, photos, games, and ringtones to be held on a single card."The current generation mobile phone is offering mega-pixel photography, video recording, audio, gaming, and office application functionalities, but is still limited in storage capacity. This 1GB capacity will allow power users to unleash these functions, truly making their phones complete portable multimedia solutions. In addition to ATP's MMCmobile lineup, our MMCplus and new MMCmicro lineups will continue to solidify ATP as the true leader in flash card performance and technology," said Danny Lin, ATP VP of Sales and Marketing. ATP MMCmobile?cards are also compatible with mobile phones which require or can use dual voltage memory cards such as Nokia smartphones 6630, 6680, 6681, 6682, N90, and N70. This dual voltage (DV) feature allows for compatibility with devices running on the conventional 3.0V as well as with the dual voltage 3.0/1.8V devices. Low voltage translates to much lower power consumption, meaning a longer battery life without any compromise in multimedia function. At 24 x 18 x 1.4mm and about half the size of the MMCplus, the MMCmobile is a standard memory card format conforming to the specification v4.1 of the MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA). MMCmobile supports data bus width of 1/4/8 bits, 3/1.8V dual voltage, and is fully backward compatible with original MMC cards.ATP's new MMCmobile cards offer the same advanced features as ATP's other flash card products offering ample protection from water, dust, ESD (electro-static discharge), and extreme temperatures ranging from ?40C to 85C. This allows for versatility and durability rarely found today in flash memory cards. The 1GB MMCmobile product is available in sample quantities now, with mass production planned in October. 512MB, 256MB and 128MB MMCmobile cards are also currently available.About ATPFounded in 1991, ATP (Advanced Technology & Packaging) Electronics, Inc. is a recognized leading manufacturer of high capacity flash digital media solutions as well as top quality memory module products. With strictly regulated ISO 9001 certified facilities and advanced technologies in memory packaging, flash card designs, testing and qualification, ATP differentiates itself from the competition, offering highly durable flash card solutions which in addition to high performance, offer protection from water/moisture, dust, static discharge, and extreme temperatures. High Speed, Weather Proof and Dependable Storage, ATP's latest flash products feature 2GB MMC/SD, as well as 1GB miniSD, RS-MMC, Dual-Voltage (DV) RS-MMC, MMCplus, MMCmicro.
Will MP3 take over as most supported ringtone format from cellphone manufacturers?Global ring-tone sales are estimated to approach the $3 billion mark. In the US, market figures for 2005 range from $146 million to $300 million in annual sales. Some analysts predict growth upward of $900 million by 2008. [according to MercuryNews]. With legal music downloads steadily increasing, it seems inevitable that there is synergy between the two markets. It is said that full song downloads to mobile phones are also on the increase and with the rise of higher bandwith services as 3G and 4G, the Eastern markets are already enjoying the benefits.MP3 has been a controversial part of the Internet's history. It's been so controversial that it has actually rooted the file format into the computer industry (because there's no such thing as...). With so many MP3 players being sold annually it will probably be a good few years before another file format dethrones it. The marriage between cellular phones and mp3 players have long ago taken place. Most phones had problems with memory not being large enough to handle full songs, but there are already phones that take flash cards of up to 1 Gigabyte of data so that bridge has been crossed quite a while ago. This brings me to one of the oldest conspiracy theories which I'll discuss as a comparison. I am sure that cars would have been able to run off any type of waste (or old cooking oil for what it's worth) long ago if it was not for the monopolies of the large oil cartels in the world. It's not a direct comparison, I know, but what may you ask have oil cartels have to do with MP3 playing cell phones? Well, for one, gas (or petroleum as some call it) is a 'proprietory fuel' which can be controlled in a way, by oil suppliers as it's made from oil. Just like that, in the ringtone industry, there are proprietory formats of ringtones which many manufacturers rely on to make extra profits, as well as whole industries of ringtone suppliers.Surely it would be easier if all cell phones could just play MP3? Yes, but with the large availability of MP3, it might be a risk on the music industry's behalf for loss of profit on the one side, and then loss of profits on the manufacturers. It's a catch twenty two situation with the users losing out in the end! Some cellphone manufacturers do support though and I've got an idea it is in order to capture market share in the mp3 player industry. That's a good move.To the question whether MP3 will take over as fully supported ringtone format my answer is, quite possibly. I do think there is value in supporting MP3 (and MP4 which includes video for future) and hope that we'll see more of it soon..

It is believed that Ringingphone is the only independent ringtone provider in North America to provide ringtones to Verizon customers."This is obviously huge news for us," said Bob Bentz, director of marketing at Ringingphone. "It gives us a unique competitive advantage in the marketplace. Verizon customers have waited too long to be able to access some of the tremendous mobile content that exists in the marketplace today."Bentz added, however, that not all Verizon users will be able to participate initially.
What is Ringtones?Ringtones are melodic sounds a cellular or cell phone makes when an incoming call or message arrives. Since cellular phones are significantly more sophisticated than landline phones, ringtones can be personalized to suit the owner's personal taste. A variety of ringtones have appealed to consumers, increasing handsets saleability. Why use RingtonesThere are a number of reasons consumers use distinct ringtones. 1) Distinguish Callers - Advanced feature sets allow for different sounds to signify different callers.2) Identification - When you are in a meeting and a phone rings you will know if its yours without having to look3) Fun - Lets face, having a cell phone with personality and character is appealing to general consumersTypes of RingtonesThere are typically two different types of ringtones: monophonic ringtones and polyphonic ringtones. Monophonic RingtonesMonophonic tones are simple tunes, most commonly compatible with today's cell phones. The majority of cell phones can only make a single tone at a time. The monophonic ringtone tune is comprised of a series of sequential tones at different frequencies. Polyphonic RingtonesPolyphonic tones are played on cellular phones that have the capability of playing up to 16 separate tones at once. The combination of tones creates a harmonic melody. Polyphonic ringtones are more musical than a monophonic ringtone. Newer phones support polyphonic ringtones. It is likely that future cell phones will be capable of producing musical ringtones of CD quality.Finding Ringtones & Ringtone CompatibilityThere are a number of websites that offer ringtones, graphics or even games to download onto your cell phone. The websites vary in that some allow you to purchase specific ringtones while others offer subscriptions that allow you to download an unlimited number of ringtones. When you locate a ringtone be sure to first ensure that it will work with your cellular model phone and that the site is respectful of the artists copyright. Like any original works, artists receive royalties for ringtones, be sure that the website has the permission to distribute the ringtone. Sites that we've found helpful in finding ringtones and determining compatibility are:Ringtones Central - http://www.ringtones-central.comFree Ringtones Online - http://www.free-ringtones-online.comRingtone CompositionFrequently consumers will wish to compose personalized ringtones. Occasionally, cell phones can be programmed with ringtones by entering a series of buttons. Software is also available that allow consumers to create their own melodic ringtones. The software runs on a computer, and once the tune is perfected it can be transferred to the phone via a data cable. Suggested ringtone composition software can be found at:Ringtone Software - http://www.ring-tone-software.com.
